ELLESMERE
WAR MEMORIAL
World
War 1 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Mick Tilley 2014
Ellesmere’s
war memorial is a cross of Runcorn stone on a stepped base in the churchyard
of St Mary’s parish church. It is said to be an adaptation of
the memorial at Dorchester on Thames. It records the 67 men and one
woman who died in World War 1 together with the 15 men who died in World
War 2.
In addition,
there is a Boer War plaque which was in the Town Hall in the centre
of the town but this building is no longer used for this purpose, and
is currently boarded up. The memorial is now on the outside of the New
Town Hall in Willow Street.
