The Blagdon war memorial is to be found inside St.
Andrew’s Church, 60 Church Street, Blagdon, Bristol, BS40
7SJ. It takes the form of a three-light, stained glass, window and an
illuminate paper scroll, framed under glass, with an illuminated border
the includes pictures of St. Andrew, St. Hugh, Blagdon and Charterhouse
Schools, and the interior and exterior of St Hugh’s church, below
is the musical score to "REVEILLE". There are 22 names listed
for World War 1 only and these are listed in strict alphabetical order
here. There is a further brass plaque mounted in a wooden frame listing
those who fell in World War 2; there are 8 names listed.

on ARRAS FLYING SERVICES MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Also

American Embassy in Berlin now report that his machine was shot
down in an aerial battle on that day (Sep 11 1916), the aeroplane
wrecked and the crew killed.'

15 February 1944; the navigator survived and was captured. Aged
32. Born 21 September 1911. Son of Donald Michael and Mary Elizabeth

Gracie, of Bristol, married April to June Quarter 1935 in Holborn
Registration District, London. Awarded the Distinguished Flying

and crashed on the Dutch-Belgian border, possibly near Aubel,
Belgium, at 1.30 hrs, 28 April 1944. Born 9 June 1917. Son of

Edmund
was born in St.Pancras, London, England on 9 June 1917. His parents
both lived at Blagdon, Somerset, England. His enlistment application
showed his permanent address as Blagdon and present address as
St. Catherine’s, Ontario. He had a brother F/Lt. J. A. Vigor
living in London, also a female married cousin in St. Catherine’s,
Ontario. He gave his nationality as Canadian in his enlistment
papers. The only schools mentioned are the Queen’s School
in Cambridge, England and a Technical College in Coventry, England
where he took evening classes (no dates). Edmund worked at Noakes
Securities Ltd. (Aero Engines) in Coventry where he inspected
components before assembly. His sport interests were soccer, swimming,
tennis and boxing.
He enlisted at Niagara Falls on November 1939 and was next shown
as embarking at 3PRC on 5 February 1943. He was at 20 (P)AFU,
4 May 1943, 24 OTU 10 August 1943 and 434 Squadron on 8 January
1944. Edmund was sadly to lose his life on 28 April 1944.

Baronet Killed Action
Sir
George Peter Vernon Wills, member of the millionaire tobacco family,
has, it is announced to-day, been killed in action in the Mediterranean
area, while serving as a Lieut, in the Coldstream Guards. Sir
George, who was 23, was the third baronet. His grandfather, Sir
George A. Wills, left £10,000,000, and his father, whom
he succeeded in 1931, left over £2,000,000. The heir is
his 16-years-old brother, John Vernon Wills.
