BOYTON WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The memorial can be found in the parish church Boyton in the form of a square brass plaque with black edging and inscription. There are 4 names for World War 1 and 1 for World War 2. The memorial cost £10 15s 6d and the moey was raised by public subscription. The memorial was made by Jones and Willis Ltd. There are framed photographs of the dead below the memorial.

Private 22938, 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards. Died 31/03/1916. Born in Boyton. Buried at Potijze Burial Ground Cemetery

Corporal A/40216, 5th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Saskatchewan Regiment). Died 27/09/1916. Age 35. Son of Henry and Louisa Charity of Pin Mill, Boyton. Commemorated on the Vimy Memorial

Air Mechanic 3rd Class 122646, Royal Air Force. Armament School, Uxbridge. Died 18/06/1918. Age 19. Son of Charles Frederick and Dorothy Lucy Gross of Wickham Market. Buried at Boyton (St Andrew) Churchyard. Air Mechanic Gross’ death is recorded at Uxbridge. 2. Air Mechanic Gross is also commemorated on the Wickham Market War Memorial

Gunner 1152069, 2nd Air Landing Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery. Died 10/09/1943. Age 20. Son of Charles Sidney and Priscilla Margaret Hannatt of Boyton. Buried at Bari War Cemetery
