The
Debenham War Memorial takes the form of a rectangular stone of remembrance
with inscriptions on front and right sides. It was originally in the
War Memorial Institute in Gracechurch Street, Debenham but was moved
to St Marys Church, High Street, Debenham; the removal was carried out
by J Wright & Son of Ipswich. Details of the memorial appeared in
East Anglian Daily Times, 2 March 1920. There are 33 names listed for
World War 1 and 6 for World War 2. The same names are listed on the
Roll of Honour in Debenham
United Reformed Chapel. Futher details can be found on the Debenham

in action 26 August 1918; at about 5.45 o'clock on the afternoon
of August 26th, 1918, while with his stretcher squad working near
the R.A.P. of the 19th Battalion, off the Arras Cambrai road near
Monchy-le-Preux, and while engaged in guiding walking wounded to
the motor ambulances, a shell exploded a few yards from him, and
he was almost immediately killed. Aged 30. Born 8 May 1888 in Stoke,
