EDWARDSTONE WAR MEMORIAL

The Edwardstone war memorial is located roughly ½ mile east of the church and is in the form of a cavalry cross, made from Portland stone, on a stepped octagonal base. There are 14 men named for World War 1 and 2 for World War 2. The architects were Messrs W Farmer & Brindley, the builder was Mr Frederick Kingsbury and the letters were cut by F J Lindley. The memorial was orignally unveiled by the Ven. G Hodges on 14th March 1920; this was reported in the East Anglian Daily Times 16th March 1920.

Son of Elizabeth Whymark (formerly Griggs), of Edwardstone, Suffolk, and the late John Griggs. Awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). Formerly T/313517, Royal Army Service Corps.
