based Royal Navy Fleet, known as Force H, sailed on Christmas Day
1940 to support a Middle East troop convoy (WS 5A). The German heavy
cruiser, Admiral Hipper, was engaged by the fleet and driven away
from the convoy. During the action, HMS Berwick received a hit from
an 8-inch shell causing some damage and a few casualties – including
Marine Broom. |
