HEMINGSTONE WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The Hemingstone war memorials are to be found in St Gregory's Church, Church Lane, Hemingstone, Suffolk. There are three different memorial, the first is a marble plaque with black lettering on a backboard listing the names five men from the village who gave their lives in World War 1; the second is a mabrle plaque with black lettering on a backboard listing the names of the two men from the village who gave their lives in World War 2; the thrid is a handwritten scroll listing all the men who served and died or served and returned, twenty-four names in total. The World War 1 plaque listing those who died in World War 1 was made by Mr Charles Mee of Sproughton and unveiled 30 November 1919 with the Rev. W. J. Badcock, Rector of Great Blakenham in attendance. The names on each plaque have been sorted into alphabetical order here for ease of reading and research.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Revel, of Henley, Ipswich; husband of Thirza Amelia Revel, of Church Lane, Hemingstone, Ipswich, Suffolk. Buried at TILLOY BRITISH CEMETERY, TILLOY-LES-MOFFLAINES, Pas de Calais, France. Plot IV. Row E. Grave 27.

Resident Hemingstone, Ipswich. Agricultural Machinist by trade. Son of Charles and Florence Beatrice Mutimer, of 52, The Common, Hemingstone, Suffolk. Buried at THANBYUZAYAT WAR CEMETERY, Myanmar (Burma). Plot B3. Row G. Grave 7.

Attested 24 November 1899 in Ipswich, aged 20 years, unmarried, Valet by trade, height 5 feet 6 inches, weight 142lbs, chest 34½ inches, fresh complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, religious denomination Church of England. Extended his service 8 April 1904, transferred to Army Reserve 23 November 1907. Posted 10th Reserve Regiment 30 December 1916, Base Depot 27 February 1917, B.E.F. 4th Hussars 26 May 1917, No. 2.
