Hundon
war memorial can be found in the grounds of the parish church and takes
the form of a Paty Cross on a plinth mounted on a two stepped base,
the inscriptions are on the plinth. There are 13 names for World War
1 and 5 for World War 2.

ship at the Battle of Jutland 31st May 1916. Aged 23. Son of George
and Jane Pledger, of Church St., Hundon, Clare, Suffolk. No known
grave. Commemorated on PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Hampshire. Panel

Note:
HMS Invincible was an Invincible Class Battlecruiser built at Elswick,
laid down April 1906, completed March 1909, cost £1,767,515.
On 6th August 1914 she completed her refit and was dispatched to
Queenstown for trade protection duties then on 19th August 1914
she was ordered to return to become the flagship with the 2nd Battlecruiser
Squadron. On 28th August 1914 she took part in the Battle of Heligoland
Bight and in September 1914 she was transferred to 1st Battlecruiser
Squadron. In October 1914 she rejoined 2nd Battlecruiser Squadron.
On 4th November she was ordered to South American waters to hunt
Admiral Graf Spee and on 11th November 1914, after short refit at
Devonport, she set sail as the flagship of Vice-Admiral Sturdee.
The 8th December 1914 saw her involved in the Battle of the Falkland
Islands and on 16th December 1914 she left the Falkland Islands
for home. From January to February 1915 she had a refit at Gibraltar
and then joined 3rd Battlecruiser Squadron. On 31st May 1916 she
sunk by SMS Derfflinger and Lützow at the Battle of Jutland
but she did inflict fatal damage on Lützow. |

Note:
H.M.S. Goodall was a Frigate (K 479) built by Boston Navy Yard (Boston,
Massachusetts, U.S.A.), laid down 20th May 1943, launched 8th July
1943, commissioned 4th April 1943. HMS Goodall (Lt.Cdr. J.V. Fulton,
RNVR) was torpedoed and sunk at 22:00 hours on 29 April 1945 in
position 69.25N, 33.38E by U-286. Just an hour before Goodall was
was sunk she was missed with a gnat torpedo fired by U-968.
