On 21st March Harold was in the 61st Machine Gun Corps, when heavy German shellfire hit all areas of the British lines at 04:40; the main attack was between Arras and St Quentin; the German infantry attacked at 07:00 and the forward zone (the 61st) was quickly overwhelmed and almost lost completely. |
