memorial for The Sailor's & Fishermen's Bethel, Lowestoft is now
held in the Lowestoft War Memorial
Museum. Several other memorials are also held in the museum. The
World War 1 memorial is in the form of an enqgraved brass plaque containing
the inscription and the names affixed to a wooden base board. The names
listed here have been sorted into alphabetical order for ease of reading
and research.

Died 12 January 1916. Aged 23. Son of Edward and Mary Blowers, of
5, Sunnyside Cottages, Victoria Rd., Oulton Broad, Lowestoft. Buried
in GILLINGHAM (WOODLANDS) CEMETERY, KENT. Naval Plot 25. Grave 1319.

Lowestoft 22 Dec 1896. Deck Hand in the Royal Naval Reserve on HMS
Q20, his service number was 7823DA (Ch). He was killed or died by
means other than disease, accident or enemy action, his body was
not recovered for burial. His parents are Joseph and Sabina Cook,
of 16 Waveney Terrace, Whapload Road, Lowestoft. His next of kin
was listed as his mother Sabina Cook living 2 Cooks Buildings, Lowestoft.
His name is also on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Panel 26. See also

Killed in Channel Raid 26 October 1916. Aged 38. Son of Charles
and Harriett Doy, of Lowestoft; husband of Emily Matilda Doy, of
73, Sussex Rd., Lowestoft, Suffolk. Awarded Long Service and Good
Conduct Medal. No known grave. Commemorated on CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL,

Note:
H.M. Drifter Launch Out built 1909, 67 tons. Hired 1915. Sunk
by gunfire from German destroyers in the Dover Strait 27th October
1916. She was part of the large fleet that maintained the net
barrage across the Dover Strait to prevent German submarines passing
westward into the Channel. They were also equipped to attack U
Boats as well as maintain the barrage.
Launch
Out was in company with the drifters Young Crow, EBC, Ajax II,
Mishe Nahama and IFS in the vicinity of 9a buoy along the barrage
when they were attacked by the destroyers. Ajax II and Launch
Out were sunk, EBC was damaged. Buoy 9a was at the southern end
of the Sandettie Bank.

Lowestoft 25 July 1893. Deck Hand in the Royal Naval Reserve on
HM Drifter Waltham, his service number was 2788DA (Ch). He was killed
or died as a direct result of enemy action on 10 October 1917, his
body was not recovered for burial. His next of kin was his wife
Winifred E Holland, living 23 Windsor Terrace, Bay Road, Larne,
Ireland. He was awarded the Silver Medal "For Zeal" (Russia).
No known grave. Commemorated on CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, Kent. Panel

memorials lists him as Seaman 7646] Ordinary Seaman Z/7606, Royal
Naval Depot (Crystal Palace) and Bristol Port Division, Royal Naval
Volunteer Reserve. Died from disease 8th october 1918. Aged 18.
He was born in Kirkley, Lowestoft, Suffolk on the 4th September
1900, his father was William James Youngman, living 5 Grosvenor
Road, South Lowestoft at the time of his death and his mother was
Lilian (known as Lily) Mary, living 18 John Street, South Lowestoft
at the time of his death. He had a younger sister called Irene Vera
YOUNGMAN, born in 1907. Buried in LOWESTOFT (KIRKLEY) CEMETERY,
Suffolk. Plot/Row/Section Y. Grave 35. See
