The
memorial is to be found within the parish church, Walpole. A brass alms
dish is to be found within the church on which is inscribed with 5 names
from World War 1 and 4 names from World War 2. It is known that the
dish was dedicated on 11th May 1949. The is also a marble plaque within
parish church.

1st Class C/KX 97139, Royal Navy. HMS Gallant. Died 10/01/1941.
Age 21. Son of Jack and Ethel Florence Wilby of Stoke Ferry, Norfolk.
Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
The
destroyer HMS Gallant was heavily damaged by a mine on 10th January
1941 in the Mediterranean. She was taken in tow and reached Malta,
but was then sunk by aircraft on 20th January. |
