East Chiltington, formerly a chapelry of Westmeston, is now a parish of 2,500 acres and lies to the east of Plumpton.

Parish Church  
The Parish Church (dedication unknown) is in the centre of the parish, where the lane from Streat meets another coming from the south.
Nave  

On the west wall is the Roll of Honour for the Parish which lists forty nine names in two columns, thirty-three in the first and twenty-six in the second, a red cross is made against those who fell, the roll reads:

Churchyard  

There is one Great War grave located in this churchyard that is recorded in the C.W.G.C. Register as follows:

DENCE, Gnr. F., 905635. Royal Field Artillery 8th April, 1920.

In front of the Church near to the north wall is found the family grave of Luke & Sarah Welfare, which includes the following inscription:

Also William youngest son of the above who lost his life in the Great War 1914-1918

War Memorial  

Situated just outside the churchyard on the small green is the Parish War Memorial that commemorates the names of eleven men. Also commemorated on this memorial are the five men who gave their lives during WWII. The dedication reads:

Captain, 2nd Battalion, 119th (Mooltan Regiment), Indian Infantry. Died 3rd February 1917, age 23. Son of the late George Clement & Clare de St Croix. No known grave. Commemorated on the BASRA Memorial, Iraq. Panel reference 51. Locally commemorated on 1. Village War Memorial only.

Private 3/170, New Zealand Medical Corps. Died, Gallipoli, 3rd May 1915, died 3rd May 1915. No known grave. Commemorated on the LONE PINE Memorial. Panel 76. Locally his name is commemorated on 1. Village War Memorial 2. Parish Church Roll of Honour.

HUNT

Yeoman of Signals 237755, H.M.S. Goliath, Royal Navy. Killed in action, Dardenelles, 13th May 1915 when the Turkish destroyer Mouavenet-Millieh torpedoed H.M.S. Goliath. The following is taken from: “Dictionary of Disasters at Sea During the Age of Steam 1824-1962” At 01:15hrs on the morning of 13th May three torpedoes hit “Goliath” in quick succession. So swiftly did the ship sink that many of those below were downed before they could reach the upper deck…. Of the 750 on board Goliath about 570, including the Captain were drowned.
