HUNSTON WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

Hunston is a small hamlet near to Mundham. The memorial is to be found at the entrance to St. Leodegars, Parish Church, Chruch Lane, Hunston, and takes the form of a wooden gate with a pitched tiled roof erected on four wooden pillars with stone tablets set into adjoining wall bearing the names and inscription. There are six names for World War 1 and 12 for World War 2. The memorial was unveiled and dedicated by the Archdeacon of Chichester 26th June 1920.

Rifleman TF/330551, 1/8th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. 54th Division. “C” Company. Killed in action in Palestine at the Third battle of Gaza 2. November 1917. Aged 19. Son of Mr & Mrs George Leach of 14, Kingsham Road, Chichester. Enlisted in Newport, Isle of Wight. Buried in Gaza War Cemetery, Palestine.

Rifleman 3661, 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade. 1st Division. “A” Company. Died of wounds 13 March 1915. Aged 23. Son of George & Emily Stubbs of Kipson Bank, Hunston. Born in Chichester and enlisted in Portsmouth. Buried in Merville Communal Cemetery
