LANCING
WAR MEMORIAL
World War 1 & 2 - Roll
of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Researched Chris Comber 2004
The
memorial stands in Lancing next to the church. The 32 World War 1 names
on the memorial in South Lancing are repeated in the Parish Church of
St. James the Less in North Lancing. There are 47 names for World War
2. The memorial takes the form of a Celtic cross on a tapering shaftstanding
on a three tiered plinth within a paved area with a wall surrounding.
The war memorial was previously located immediately in front of St Michaels
and between the wars South Street was widened leading to the relocation
of the memorial to its present site. It was first unveiled 6 February
1921 and cost £150.
