PATCHING WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The memorial, can be found within Patching parish church of St. John The Divine. It takes the form of a bronze plaque, on the south facing wall of the nave, with the inscription and names in relief. There is also a handscribed Roll of Honour. No memorial for World War 2 was apprent. There are 7 surnames with one Christian name for World War 1 with a list below it of those who served.

Son of Willian John & Fanny Elizabeth Homer of Patching. Awarded the Naval General Service Medal (Persian Gulf). Commemorated on The Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Southsea.

Private TF/260007, 1/5th. Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. 48th Division (Pioneer Battalion). Died of wounds near Ypres 26th August 1917. Aged 19. Son of Stephen & Julia Kinnard of Clapham near Patching. Native of Patching. Born and enlisted in Worthing. Buried in Mendingham Military Cemetery, Belgium

Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. 5th Division. Killed in action 15th April 1917. Aged 19. Son of Viscount & Viscountess Molesworth of “Shalimar” Chertsey Lane, Staines, Middlesex. Buried in Villers Station Cemetery,Villers Au Bois.
