The Memorial is in the form of a tablet within the parish church. it coantains 7 names from World War 1. It is a wall mounted, alabaster, tablet with black lettering and a dark marble backing. There are three flag poles surrounding the tablet and a depiction of a Greek Cross within a laurel wreath is in the top, centre.

Walter William

Private G/16401, 13th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. 39th Division. Killed in action in Martinsart Wood 3 November 1916. Aged 41. Husband of Mrs Alice Bailey of 2, Gordon Terrace, Sea Road, Felpham. Born in Tangmere and enlisted in Bognor. 14 years with the Bognor Urban District Council. Left four children. Also included on Felpham Parish Church and Bognor War Memorial Hospital Memorials. Commemorated on The Thiepval Memorial MR.21.

CARTER

James Henry

Private 82835, 2/2nd Battalion, London Regiment. Killed in action 10 September 1918. Aged 29. Son of James & Alice Carter of 'The Tangmere Hotel', Tangmere. Born in Bury, West Sussex and enlisted in Chichester. Formerly with the Middlesex Regiment Buried in Epehy Wood Farm Cemetery, Epehy.

CROFT

Ernest Frank

Private L/10404, 7th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. 12th Division. Killed in action at Ovillers 7 July 1916. Aged 23. Son of Frank & Caroline Croft of 6, Dukes Cottages, Tangmere. Born in Westbourne and enlisted in Chichester. Commemorated on The Thiepval Memorial MR.21.

ELLIS

Percy

Private G/619, 7th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. 12th Division. Killed in action near Houplines 6 August 1915. Born in Tangmere and enlisted in Chichester. Buried in Houplines Communal Cemetery Extension. F.1140

GLAYSHER

Frederick George

Private G/495, 2nd Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. 1st Division. Killed in action near Ramscappelle 10 July 1917. Aged 22. Son of Frederick & Ellen Glaysher of Tangmere. Born in Tangmere & enlisted in Chichester. Buried in Ramscappelle Road Military Cemetery, St. Georges, Belgium B. 173

SMART

Robert William

Private 532698, 15th Battalion, London Regiment. (Civil Service Rifles) Killed in action 10 April 1917. Born in Sussex and enlisted in Birmingham. Resident of Kings Norton. Buried in Bedford House Cemetery, Belgium.

STRUDWICK

George

Private G/7369, 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment. 24th Division. Killed in action during the March Retreat 22 March 1918. Born in Littlehampton and enlisted in Chichester. Next of kin Oving, Formerly with the Royal Sussex. Commemorated on The Pozieres Memorial MR.27.
