The memorial is positioned on the seafront, surrounded by a walkway and flower beds. It is very well cared for, and in excellent condition. The names are not listed in alphabetical order. Names marked with * are also on the Brighton Boer War (Sussex Regiment) memorial.

[Memorial states 2nd Battalion] Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. Died of dysentery at Schhoeman's Kloof 30th April 1901. Son of Dr W S Simpson. Educated Lancing College.

Simpson. - Lieut. Tom Thorp Simpson, 1st Batt. Shropshire Light Infantry, died of dysentery at Schhoeman’s Kloof on April 30th, 1901. He was a son of Dr. W. S. Simpson, was born in May, 1877, and educated at Lancing College. He entered the Shropshire Light Infantry from the 4th Batt. in May, 1899, being promoted lieut. Aug., 1900. Lieut. Simpson had served with the 2nd battalion of his Regiment in South Africa from the commencement of the war.
