Lieutenant Colonel, 23rd Battalion [CWGC states 8th Battalion], Royal Welch Fusliers. Killed in action commanding the 5th Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment 9th April 1916 at Sanna Y Yat. [SDGW states 3rd Battalion] Age 49. Born 22nd December 1866. Nephew of Sir William Throckmorton, Bt., of Coughton Court, Warwickshire; husband of Lilian Throckmorton, of Coughtton Court. Served upwards of 21 years with 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers. Mentioned in Despatches. Commemorated on Basra Memorial, Basra, Iraq. Panel 15.

‘Sacred to the memory of Courtenay Throckmorton Lieutenant Colonel 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers born 22nd December 1866 who was killed in action 9th of April 1916 while in temporary command of the 5th Batt Wiltshire Regiment and was buried on the battlefield of Sanna y Yat Mentioned in Despatches. Placed by his Widow. RIP’

Major, Chatham Company, Royal Marine Battalion, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Died 23rd April 1918 at Zeebrugge. Age 34. Son of the Rev. Canon and Mrs. C. F. Eagles, of Coughton, Warwickshire; husband of Esme Beatrice Eagles, of The Gate House, Gateacre, Liverpool. Buried left of path, near chapel in Coughton Church Cemetery, on the Birmingham-Alcester road, was opened in 1867, and belongs to St. Peter's Church.

Second Lieutenant, 10th Battalion attached 9th Battalion, Royal Wariwckshire Regiment. Died of wounds 6th April 1916 in Mesopotamia. [SDGW states 10th April] Age 19. Son of Arthur and Alice Victoria Chambers, of Station Rd., Studley, Warwickshire. Buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq. Plot XIX. Row A. Grave 5.

Lance Corporal 9212, 11th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died of gas poisoning 9th August 1917 in France. Age 21. Born and resident Coughton, enlisted Worcester. Son of N & M Mason of Coughton. Awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). Buried in Outtersteene Communal Cemetery Extension, Bailleul, Nord, France. Plot I. Row A. Grave 15.

Son of Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Ford, of Perry Mill Lane, Sambourne, Astwood Bank, Redditch. Formerly 56093, Devonshire Regiment. Buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manacourt, Somme, France. Plot I. Row F. Grave 12.
