This brass plate plaque was erected to two men from castle Howar Reformatory School who became casualties in the South African (Boer) War.

Bandsman 4295, 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. [Killed in action on memorial] Died of wounds at Witvals Drift, Pretoria, Transvaal 11th July 1900.

ALSO OF

NEWTON

George Thrower

Private 6015, 1st Battalion, Prince of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment). Died of enteric fever at Bloemfontein 9th April 1900.
