Pte. 18205.  2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment.  Killed in action Thursday 12 October 1916.  Age 22.  Born & lived Battlesden.  Enlisted Bedford.  Son of John William Clarke of 41 Dartmoor Street, Notting Hill Gate, London.  Commemorated on   Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.  Ref.  Pier & Face 2C.

Cpl. 22879.  4th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment.  Killed in action Friday 20 April 1917.  Age 34.  Born Polgrave (sic) Bedfordshire. Lived Welwyn, Herts.  Enlisted Bedford.  Son of Thomas & Alice Clarke of Sheep Lane, Woburn; husband of Minnie Clarke of School House, Leighton Street, Woburn, Bedfordshire.  Commemorated on Arras Memorial, Pas-de-Calais, France.  Ref. Bay 5.

FREEMAN

John

Private L/7552, 16th (The Queen's) Lancers. Died on Saturday 27th March 1915. Age 30. Son of William and Frances Elizabeth Freeman, of Checkley Wood Farm, Hockliffe, Bedfordshire. Buried in CURRAGH MILITARY CEMETERY, County Kildare, Ireland, Republic of Ireland. Grave 1210. The farm at Hockliffe is almost equidistant from both the Heath & Reach and Battlesden memorials. Pte. 35648. 1st Battalion Essex Regiment.  Died Tuesday 8 July 1919.  Buried:  Potsgrove St. Mary Churchyard, Bedfordshire.

Pte. 60145.  8th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment).  Formerly 23266 Bedfordshire Regiment.  Killed in action Saturday 24 November 1917.  Age 24.  Born Battlesden.  Lived Woburn.  Enlisted Ampthill.  Son of James & Salome Ticker of Battlesden, Woburn; husband of Sarah Louise Tucker of Battlesden Lodge, Woburn.  Commemorated on   Cambrai Memorial, Louveral, Nord, France.  Panel 3 & 4.

WOOLHEAD

Pte. 19651.  1st Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment.  Formerly 8365 Bedfordshire Regiment.  Killed in action Monday 2 April 1917.  Born Rigg, Herts.  Lived Woburn.  Enlisted Bedford.  Husband of S.M. Woolhead, of 4 Bathlesden (sic), Woburn, Bletchley, Bucks.  Buried:  Chapelle British Cemetery, Holnon, Aisne, France.
