The
war memorial sits in the grounds of All Saints Church, Houghton Conquest,
beside the path. It takes the form of a smooth, granite, column on a
square plinth; the inscription is in black lettering on the plinth;
the whole sits on a stepped base which is inset into a further stone
filled stepped base.. There are 16 names listed for World War 1, nine
for World War 2 and one for the Korean War.

Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.; husband of Mrs Jessie Priscilla Huckle (nee
Stevens), of Houghton Conquest, Ampthill, Beds (married 1898). Labourer
by trade. Enlisted London 2 October 1893; discharged completed period
of limited engagement 3 October 1905; enrolled RFR 19 December 1906;
Chatham Battalion at Dunkirk 20 September 1914 to 2 October 1914
& Defence of Antwerp 3-9 October 1914; Mesopotamian Expeditioanry
Force 6 February until his death. Listed in the Trade Union Members,
Service & Casualties 1914-1918, killed in action, from Houghton
Branch. Buried in BEACH CEMETERY, ANZAC, Turkey (including Gallipoli).

He
was mobilised in August 1914. and immediately drafted
to Prance, where he took part in the defence of Antwerp.
Later he was transferred to the Dardanelles, and saw much
severe fighting during, the Landing at Gallipoli, He made
the supreme sacrifice, being killed in action on April
30th, 1915, and was entitled to the 191.4 Star, and the
General Service and Victory Medals.
" A valiant Soldier, with undaunted heart he breasted
life's last hill."
