pneumonia as a complication of Malaria 16 November 1918. Aged 36.
Born 23 July 1883 in Luton. Married. Son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Kirby, of Luton; husband of Lily Kirby, of 79, Ridgway Road, Luton.
researching the details of Frederick William Kirby who is listed
in Luton Roll of Honour as Army Cyclists Corps No. 18560 I have
found the following details. Born 23 July 1883, son of William and
Emily Kirby of Burr Street Luton, one of eight children. He enlisted
in 3rd Volunteers Beds Regiment in 1899 and rejoined in 1904, Transferred
to 5th Btn when Volunteers became T.F. He married Lily Rayment on
25 May 1901 and by the time of his death they had four children.
On outbreak of war he was recalled in September 1914 No. 3699 but
transferred to the East Anglian Cyclists Corps on 28 April 1915.
These became 54th Division Cyclists Corps and his No. was 18560.
He was serving in Egypt and in September 1918 and became seriously
ill with Malaria,being admitted to hospital at Alexandria. Buried
in ALEXANDRIA (HADRA) WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY, Egypt. Plot E. Grave
