COOKHAM DEAN WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Dai Bevan 2008

The memorial is situated on the village green at the corner of Church Road and Village Green. It consists of a Lation cross on a spiral column which sits on a square-section plinth. The whole sits on a three-step base which is surrounded by a cobbled circular surface. Original carved names are fading, and plaques have been added with clear names. There are 41 names for World War 1 and 8 for World War 2. The memorial was unveiled on 23rd November 1919; the architect was Frederick Charles Eden. Details appeared in the Maidenhead Advertiser 26th november 1919, 15 September 1920 and 13th November 1946 when presumably the World War 2 names were added. Alongside the memorial is The Millennium Seat dedicated by the British Legion “In memory of our Members who have now joined their Comrades”
