This
memorial is located in the grounds of St Mary’s Parish Church
and is in the form of a Celtic style granite cross which is set on a
tapered plinth on a single slab base. All those mentioned for 1914-1918
are also to be seen on the memorial at Antony.

Private. He was an American soldier stationed locally during the
run up to D Day. He was born probably 28th March 1923, died 29 July
1944, the son of Jesse T Hitt. On 16 April 1944 he married a local
girl, Hilda Margaret Channings in the Church by the war memorial.
By coincidence the bride was a niece of Alfred Callaghan who is
also named on the memorial (see World War 1 section). |
