The
Burgh By Sands war memorial is situated in St. Michael’s Church
Cemetery Extension, Burgh By Sands, Cumbria. It takes the form of a
Celtic cross on a tapering shaft mounted on a plinth with a two-stepped
base, the inscriptions being on the plinth. There are 16 names for World
War 1. The memorial was erected by public subscription, costing £63
19s 6d, the builders were Messrs. beattie & Co; it was unveiled
31st October 1921. Within the church of St Michael is a second memorial
in the form of a plain rectangular bronze plaque in a carved frame with
an incised inscription. This memorial contains the names of 9 men who
gave their lives in World War 2 and has yet to be transcribed.
