The
war memorial is to be found within St Peter’s Church, Kingstown,
Carlisle, Cumbria. It takes the form of a brass plaque mounted on oak
mounted on wall. The World War 1 names are listed by surname and initial
only. The church building founded in 1931. The World War 1 names are
also listed on the memorial at St John’s Church, Houghton.

Soldier’s
Death.
Caused by Swallowing
False Teeth.
At
an inquest at Hull on Joseph Birkett (24) of Carlisle, a Corporal
in the Durham Light Infantry, it was stated what on December 9th,
he swallowed his false teeth, in which there was a fault, about
which he had complained but which could not immediately be repaired
because the dentist he saw was full of work. Three operations were
performed at the Royal Infirmary, and Birkitt died from haemorrhage.
A verdict of accidental death was returned. |
