MAPLESTEAD WAR MEMORIAL
World War 1 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Kim Andrews 2015
St
John the Baptist Church, Little Maplestead, Essex, is known locally
as "The Round Church", and has long been associated with the
Knights Hospitallers, the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Although there
was a priest in Little Maplestead in 1086 the earliest part of the current
building dates from 1335, and it was extensively restored in the Victorian
era. The memorial in Little Maplestead is to be found in St John the
Baptist Church, Little Maplestead, to the left of the entrance door
and takes the form of brass plaque mounted on a black marble backing.
There are three men named who lost ther lives in World War 1. A further
elaboarte Roll of Honour shows those who served in World War 1 and returned
as well as the three who made the ultimate sacrifice.
