There is a stone tablet located on the south wall of the nave at St Mary’s Church, Cowley. It has a wreath at the top, centre, with the inscription below in gold lettering commemorating eight men from the parish who perished giving their name, rank and unit.

FISHER William Henry
Private 21121. 10th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. Died 13th October 1915, aged 21. Son of Arthur H and Annie M Fisher, of Cowley. Commemorated at Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 60 to 64.
GREENING Arthur
Private 54390. 1st/5th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment. Died 11th October 1917. No known grave. Commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial. West Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 42 to 47.
HORLICK Gerald Nolekin
Major. Royal Gloucestershire Hussars (E.E.F). Twice mentioned in Despatches. Died 5th July 1918, aged 30. No known grave. Son of Sir James and Lady Horlick, of Cowley Manor, Cowley. Buried at Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. Plot B. 67.
LEACH Harold
Private 1949. 1st/5th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. Died of influenza, 24th January 1915, aged 23. Son of James and Elizabeth Leach, of Cowley. Buried at St Mary’s Churchyard, Cowley. North East of Church.
PHILLIPS Cecil Ivor
Second Lieutenant. 45th Squadron, Royal Flying Corps and Gloucestershire Regiment. Died 27th October 1917, aged 18. Born in Ipswich, Suffolk. Son of the Reverend Egbert Ivor Allen Phillips and Ethel Mary D Phillips, of 11 Pembroke Vale, Clifton, Bristol. Commemorated at Arras Flying Services Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
PRICE Henry Charles
Corporal 240322. 1st/5th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. Died 21st July 1916. No known grave. Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Pier and face 5A and 5B.
WATTS William Wilfred
Private 21483. 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards. Died 11th October 1917. No known grave. Commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial, West Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 9.
WORKMAN John William
Private 28252. 12th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. Died 6th December 1916. Buried at Rue-Des-Berceaux Cemetery, Richebourg-La’avoue, Pas de Calais, France. Plot I. F. 14.
