The Plaitford War Memorial is located in St Peter’s Church. It takes the form of a white marble tablet with the inscription in black lettering that commemorates three men from the parish that fell in World War 1. The makers of the plaque were J Grace, Stone Masons, of Romsey. There is no memorial for World War 2.

BOWLES Robert Vincent
Private 41263. 1st Battalion, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. Died 1st May 1918, aged 18. Born in Plaitford and enlisted in Southampton. Son of Alfred and Sarah Bowles (nee Stares), of Plaitford. Buried at Merville Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France. Plot IV. C. 3.
SIMMONDS James
Private 10377. 10th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Died 7th December 1915, aged 35. No known grave. Born in Plaitford. Son of John and Eliza Simmonds (nee Roud), of Plaitford. Brother of John Simmonds (below). Commemorated at Doiran Memorial, Greece.

Private 1910. 1st/4th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Died 21st May 1916, aged 42. No known grave. Born in Plaitford. Son of John and Eliza Simmonds (nee Roud), of Plaitford. Brother of James Simmonds (above). Commemorated at Basra Memorial, Iraq. Panel 21 and 63.
