FENSTANTON WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 and 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The memorial is located within the churchyard of St Peter and Paul Church, Church Lane Fenstanton. A white marble, tapering, obelisk replicating the shape and height of the church spire, on a stepped plinth, two steps and a base with the lettering in black. There are 19 names for World War 1 and 3 for World War 2. There are a further two brass plaques mounted on white marble on the wall within St Peter and Paul Church that commemorate the same men as the external memorial.

1914 - 1918

ALLEN

Henry Thomas

Private 3758, 1/4th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Died of wounds at Gallipoli 31 August 1915. Enlisted Peterborough, Northants. Embarked in the Balkans 29 July 1915. In the 1881 census he was aged 1, born Fenstanton, son of Robert and Eliza Allen, resident Hilton Road, Fen Stanton, St Ives, Huntingdonshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 31, born Fenstanton, unmarried, a Bricklayer, son of Eliza Allen, brother of James, Agnes and Matthew Allen, resident Church Street, Fenstanton, Huntingdonshire. Married Florence Nelly Hutson (1889) on the 2 March 1912, Florence had a child, which Henry took as his own, the following year Florence gave birth to Robert, sadly Robert died in 1913, Walter was born 1913 and Henry 1915. Buried in 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery, Turkey. Special Memorial B. 48. See also St Ives

In the 1901 census he was aged 19, born Fenstanton, a Bootmaker, son of William J and Alice J Bond, resident High Street, Fenstanton, St Ives, Huntingdonshire. In the 1911 censsu he was aged 29, born Fenstanton, a Bootmaker, married to Annie, resident High Street, Warboys, Huntingdonshire. *** No military records found to match ***

[Listed as Sergeant in Ferozepore Burial Records] Gunner 163508, 10th Armoured Battery, Machine Gun Corps (Motors) who died from pneumonia on Sunday, 5th January 1919. Aged 32. Buried 6th January 1919 in FEROZEPORE MILITARY CEMETERY, Bengal, India. Plot C. Grave 158.
