The
memorial stands on the main road through Kimbolton outside the grounds
of St. Andrew's church. The names on the memorial are in order of rank.
Those listed here are alphabetical. Besides this memorial there are
more - to learn more about the memorials of Kimbolton see
the additional pages. The memorial was unveiled on 20th January
1920 by the Bishop of Ely; the architect was Mr Inskipp Ladds. It is
made from a broken battlement upon which is mounted a 15th century Gothic
Cross with an octagonal shaft and a two-stepped base. There are 29 names
for World War 1 and 5 for World War 2.

Enlisted and passed fit the 4th July 1916 in Vancouver. Aged 27
when he enlisted. Height 5 feet 9½ inches, girth 36 inches.

R. M. College, Sandhurst. Born 3rd May 1897 at Leamington, Warwicks. Gazetted 2nd
Lt. with Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers September 1915; transferred
to RFC February 1916; to 70 Squadron as observer May 1916. Killed
flying Sopwith Strutter, with pilot 2nd Lt. E. J. Henderson (wounded);
attacked by enemy aircraft near Bapaume and force-landed behind

6th March 1917. Age 19. Son of the Rev. Arthur Gurney Gosset Bibby
and Florence Gosset Bibby, of Kimbolton, Hunts. Educated at Wells
House, Malvern Wells and Oundle. Born 9th April 1897. Father was headmaster of Kimbolton
Grammar School, but had retired by the outbreak of war and family
residence was 11 St. Augustine Road, Bedford. Enlisted in RFC in
1915, and served as NCO observer in France in 1916. Then commissioned
and trained as pilot. Joined 16 Squadron February 1917. Killed flying
BE.2e, with observer Lt. G. J. O. Brichta (ex-Canadian Mounted Rifles,
also killed); on artillery observation patrol near Vimy, shot down
over Canadian front line by Ltn. Manfred von Richthofen of Jasta
11 (his 24th of 80 victories). See “Under the Guns of the Red Baron”

was born in Kimbolton and his grandparents, great uncle and second
cousins still lived in Kimbolton. He was probaly a regular visitor
to his extended family. Although only a handful remained in the
20th century in the mid 19th century there were several households
of Ibbs families in the town and they had been a significant part
