HOGSTHORPE WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial for Hogsthorpe is to be found in the churchyard of the parish church. It takes the form of an obelisk mounted on a plinth with a three-stepped base standing in a gravel surorund.

To the glory of God and in grateful memory of the men of this
parish who in the Great War 1914 – 18 made the supreme sacrifice
for England and honour this memorial is dedicated.

Private 32907, 2nd Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action 25th June 1916. Aged 34. Born Hogsthorpe, enlisted Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. Son of George and Susan Brown; husband of R. White (formerly Brown), of Sunny Lane, Radcliffe-on-Trent. Buried in BIENVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY , Pas de Calais, France. Plot XIX. Row D. Grave 10.
