The memorial is in the shape of a Celtic cross on a large base standing on a one-step plinth. There are twenty-six names on the base, one of which (John W Taylor) is separated from the rest. The monument is in the grounds of Brooklands House, which belongs to Caerphilly County Borough Council, Social Services Department. To gain access to the monument, call at Brooklands House during normal office hours and enquire at the main desk. There is no access to the monument outside office hours. Those marked in blue letters are currently beign researched.

Son of Shadrach and Mary Banfield, of Commercial Road, Machen, near Newport, Monmouthshire. A clerk prior to his engagement, enlisted in October 1917 and after service on training vessels joined the crew of H.M.S. Viking on May 1st 1918. He was a regular soldier and was recorded in the 1911 Census in India with his regiment. His brother, Reuben, was also a regular soldier (9311 Serjeant), in the South Wales Borderers, and was also killed early in the war. Their father was Simon Orman, of 21, Gladstone St., Cross Keys, Monmouthshire, a Jewish immigrant from Russia. Buried in VIEILLE-CHAPELLE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY, LACOUTURE, Pas de Calais, France.
