The Ellingham war memorial is to be found in St Mary's Churchyard, Mill Pool Lane, Ellingham, Norfolk and is listed as a Grade II Listed Building. It takes the form of a plain cross mounted on a tapered plinth on as three-stepped hexagonal base. The inscription is on the front face of the plinth with the World War 1 names either side, the World War inscription is on the front face of the top step flanked by the names of the fallen. There are ten names listed for World War 1 and six names for World War 2.

Private TF/238202, 1/7th Battalion, Duke Of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) formerly 5338, 4th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 31 August 1918. Resident Ellingham, near Bungay, Suffolk. No known grave. Commemorated on VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 8-9.

[His discharge papers name him as Edward not Edgar] Private 22463, 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards. Died of wounds 25 August 1918. Aged 39. Born Ellingham, Norfolk, resident Prides Crossing, Dassachusetts, U.S.A., enlisted Boston, U.S.A. Son of Robert and Sarah Cossey, of Ellingham, Norfolk; husband of Jeanie Cossey, of 11, Wallace St., Dumbarton. Originally atetsted 16 October 1900, aged 19 years, as 3828, Coldstream Guards, a Farm Labourer by trade, unmarried, height 5 feet 93/10 inches, weight 144 lbs, chest 35-36½ inches, fresh complexion, brown eys, black hair, religious denomination Church of England, discharged 6 April 1901 as Medically Unfit.. Buried in ST. HILAIRE CEMETERY EXTENSION, FREVENT, Pas de Calais, France. Row L. Grave 33.

[Listed as Nelson N COSSEY on memorial] Lance Corporal [had previously been promoted to Corporal and Sergeant reduced to Lance Corporal] 1281, 3rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own). Died of wounds 24 February 1916. Aged 28. Born and resident Ellingham, Norfolk, enlisted Norwich. Son of Robert and Sussanah Cossey, of Red House, Ellingham, Bungay, Suffolk. Native of Ellingham. Attested 18 November 1905 at Norwich, aged 18 years 7 months, a Gardener by trade, height 5 feet 48/10 inches, weight 121lbs. chest 34 inches, fresh complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, religious denomnation Church of England. Sailed with B.E.F. 8 September 1914. Buried in ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot VI. Row C. Grave 1A.

Lance Corporal PLY/7784, H.M.S. "Lion," Royal Marine Light Infantry. Killed during the Battle of Jutland 31 May 1916. Aged 39. Born 3 May 1877 in Wllingham, Bungay, Norfolk., resident Gillingham, Kent (given as 74, Britton Street, new brompton, kent on his original attestation). Son of Robert Cossey of Ellingham, Bungay, Norfolk, and the late Susannah Cossey; brother of Mrs. Grace Smith, of Red House, Ellingham, Nr. Bungay, Norfolk. Served 21 years in the Navy. Originally attested 18 September 1895 at Chatham as 4599, 3rd Battalion, Buffs (East Kent Regiment), aged 18 years 6 months, a Carman by trade, unmarried, height 5feet 63/8 inches, weight 129lbs, chest 33-35 inches, dark complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, religious denomination Church of England. No known grave. Commemorated at PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Devon. Panel 18.
