Hugh

Private, 200731, 1st/4th Battalion Norfolk who ‘Died’ on 09/01/1919 at the age of 30 Hugh was the son of George and Elizabeth Barber, of Main Rd., Horstead, Coltishall. He is now laid to rest in grave 245 in BEIRUT WAR CEMETERY.

CLARKE

Bertie Edward

Private, 34718, 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 27/09/1918 Bertie was born in Horstead and enlisted in Norwich. He was the husband of Christine Kiddle (formerly Clarke), of London Rd., Attleborough, Norfolk. He is now laid to rest in grave E. 8 in CHAPEL CORNER CEMETERY, SAUCHY-LESTREE in France.

BISHOP

Arthur John

Sergeant, 235952, 1st/7th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers who was ‘Killed in action’ on 25/03/1918. Arthur was born in Horsford and enlisted in Norwich. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on Bay 5 of the ARRAS MEMORIAL in France.

CUSHION

Ernest George

Private, 37393, 11th Battalion Royal Fusiliers who ‘Died of Wounds’ on 18/02/1917 at the age of 28. Ernest was born in Crostwick, resided in Bale and enlisted in Cromer. He was the son of George and the late Mrs. Cushion, of Crostwick, nr. Norwich; husband of B. Cushion, of Gunthorpe, near Melton Constable, Norfolk. He is now laid to rest in grave I. I. 15 of VARENNES MILITARY CEMETERY in France.

William

Private, 9219, 7th Battalion Norfolk Regiment who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 13/10/1915. William was born in Crostwick and enlisted in Norfolk. He was the son of George and the late Mrs. Cushion, of Crostwick near Norwich and the brother of Ernest. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on Panel 30 and 31 on the LOOS MEMORIAL in France.

DRAKE

George Edward

Private, 5958, 19th (Queen Alexandra's Own Royal) Hussars who was ‘Killed in action’ on 25/11/1917. George was born in Neatishead, resided in Great Yarmouth and enlisted in Norwich. He is now laid to rest in grave III. F. 21. ANNEUX BRITISH CEMETERY in France.

DRAKE

Horace

Driver, M2/073078, Mechanical Transport Coy Army Service Corps attached to a Siege Battery of the Canadian Garrison Artillery. Horace ‘Died of wounds on 21/04/1917 and was born in Tunstead, resided in East Dereham and enlisted in Colchester. He is now laid to rest in grave V. D. 5 in VILLERS STATION CEMETERY, VILLERS-AU-BOIS in France.

EARL

Charles Arthur

Private, 40144, 8th Battalion Bedfordshire who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 14/10/1916. Charles was born in Coltishall, resided in Horstead and enlisted in Norwich. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on Pier and Face 2 C of the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL in France.

FOULGER

Jack

Private, S/8580, 1st Battalion Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 13/10/1915 at the age of 22. Jack was born in Horstead and enlisted in Norwich. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Foulger, of "Glebe Villa", Horstead near Norwich. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on Panel 78 to 83 of the LOOS MEMORIAL in France.

HILDER

Arthur Leslie Munn

Private, 234404, 78th Battalion Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment) who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 27/03/1918 at the age of 23. Arthur was the son of Edith Hilder, of Bure House, Horstead, Norwich, and the late George Hilder. He is now laid to rest in grave II. D. 18 in AIX-NOULETTE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION in France.

HOLMES

Henry John

Private, 204045, 1st/4th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who ‘Died of Wounds’ on 24/04/1917 at the age of 33. Henry enlisted in Norwich and was the son of Walter Henry Holmes, of Crostwick Bridge near Norwich. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on Bay 2 and 3 of the ARRAS MEMORIAL in France.

NORGATE

Harry Percy

Corporal, 200056, "C" Coy, 1st/4th Battalion Norfolk Regiment who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 19/04/1917 at the age of 21. Harry was born in Horstead and enlisted in Coltishall. He was the son of Edward and Emily Norgate, of "Fern Lea," Horstead. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on Panels 12 to 15 on the JERUSALEM MEMORIAL in Israel.

NORGATE

John

Private, 14814, 1st Battalion Norfolk Regiment who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 04/09/1916. John was born in Horstead and enlisted in Coltishall. He was the son of Edward and Emily Norgate, of "Fern Lea," Horstead and the brother of Harry. He is now laid to rest in grave XXVII. I. 5 in DELVILLE WOOD CEMETERY, LONGUEVAL in France.

THEOBOLD

Frederick James

Rifleman, 21984 of the Rifle Brigade who been posted to 1/28th Battalion London Regiment (Artists' Rifles) and who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 27/09/1918. Frederick enlisted at Woolwich and resided in Walworth in Surrey. He is now laid to rest in grave I. C. 25 of MOEUVRES COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION in France.

WORMALD

Drury Frank Percy

Captain, Royal Garrison Artillery who ‘Died’ on 04/11/1918. Drury had been educated at Eton and was late of Horstead Hall. He was the husband of Jean Grey Wormald and is now laid to rest in CLIVE (ALL SAINTS) CHURCHYARD in Shropshire.

WORME

George Edward

Private, 3/7167, 1st Battalion Norfolk Regiment who was ‘Killed in Action’ on 27/07/1916 at the age of 22. George was born in Horstead and enlisted in Norwich. He was the son of Thomas and Emma Worme, of Frettenham near Norwich. He is now laid to rest in grave XVI. J. 4 in SERRE ROAD CEMETERY No.2 in France.

Lawrence Wilfred

Civilian War Dead who ‘Died’ on 19/08/1940 at Scottow, (RAF Coltishall) Aerodrome. Lawrence was the husband of Laura A. M. Stone, of Church Cottages, Horstead.

JONES

Roy Alfred

Private, 14217383, 2nd Battalion Royal Norfolk who was ‘Killed in action’ on 05/05/1944 at the age of 23. Roy was the son of Alfred Norman and May Elizabeth Jones, of Crostwick near Norfolk. He is now laid to rest in grave 2. A. 11 of KOHIMA WAR CEMETERY in India.
