Roll of Honour - Ships

HMHS Simal started out as a P&O, passenger/cargo, ship built in 1894 and was eventually sunk by U-39 on the 2nd April 1916 off Gozo.

She was used to transport the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders from Cairo to East London South Africa, leaving Suez on the 3rd March 1900 and arriving off East London on 23rd March but unable to unload until 25th March, she had stopped of at Zanzibar on the 14th and at that location the ships boy had been lost overboard. On 23rd April 1902 she arrived at Durban from Delagoa Bay with 264 invalids on board in transit for England; she departed for England 27 April. During World War 1 she sailed as a transport from Devonport 12th July 1915 arriving at Mudros, India on 27-28 July 1915.
