STERNFIELD WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & NI - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The memorial is to be found in the gounds of the parish church and takes the form of a carved stone on a three stepped base with the World War 1 names inset and an additional stone for Northern Ireland. There are 4 names for the First World War and one for Northern ireland, no World War 2 names appear. There is also a framed, illuminated, Roll of Honour within the church including all men who served and returned and the four that gave their lives.

Guardsman, Grenadier Guards. Aged 18. One 21st December 1978 he was one of three guardsmen killed by machine-gun fire in a drive-by shooting whilst on foot patrol in the centre of Crossmaglen.
