BISHOPS TACHBROOK WAR MEMORIAL

The village of Bishops Tachbrookm sits 3 miles to the south-west of Royal Leamington Spa near the M40. The memorial stands in the churchyard of St Chad's Church; it takes the form of a Cross of Sacrifice standing on a four tiered base with the inscription on the faces of the tiers at the front.

DOUGHTY Albert
Private, 2572, 1st/1st Warwickshire Yeomanry. Killed in action at Um Rakham, Egypt, aged 26, Sunday, 11th of Decamber 1915. Enlistd Warwick, resident Leamington. The son of William and Elizabeth Doughty of Bishops Tachbrook. Buried in Alexandria Military and War Cemetery, Egypt.

BONEHAM Frederick
Private, 15091, 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action at Mamentz Wood aged 20, Tuesday, 11th of July 1916. Born and resident Bishops Tachbrook, enlisted Warwick. Son of James and Alice Boneham of Bishops Tachbrook. Commemorated on the Thievpal Memorial, France.

DRIVER Percy James
Private, 14968, 11th (Service) Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action during the Battle of Arleux aged 24, Sunday, 29th of April 1917. Born Tachbrook, enlisted Coventry. The son of George and Martha Driver of Bishops Tachbrook. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

Acting Corporal, 614059, 15th Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery. Killed in action aged 27, Wednesday, 11th of April 1917. Born and enlisted Warwick. The husband of Mabel Jackson, Chapel Hill, Bishops Tachbrook. Buried in the Tilloy British Cemetery, France.

Private, 164584, 100th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Killed in action aged 30, Thursday, 17th of October 1918. Born and resident Leamington, enlisted Warwick. The son of Harry and Mrs. Fox, Highdown Cottages, Bishops Tachbrook. The husband of Beatrice Fox of Bishops Itchington. Formerly 1830, Warwickshire Yeomanry. Buried in the Highland Cemetery, France.
PERCOX Victor Arthur John
Private, 21437, 9th (Service) Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died of wounds in Mesopotamia, aged 20, Sunday 31st of August 1918. Born and resident Tachbrook, enlisted Leamington. The eldest son of John and Harriett Percox of Bishops Tachbrook. Commemorated on the Tehran Memorial, Iran.

Private, D/8269, 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) Dragoon Guards. Killed in action during the Battle of St. Quentin aged 25, Friday 22nd of March 1918. Born Leamington, enlisted Perth, resident Warwick. The son of Thomas and Caroline Underhill, 65, Church Hill, Bishops Tachbrook. Commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
YARDLEY Louis Bernard
Private, 11937, 6th (Service) Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment. Killed in action during the second Battle of Bapaume aged 27, Sunday, 1st of September 1918. Born and resident Bishops Tachbrook, enlisted Birmingham. The son of Benjamin and Hannah Yardley of Bishops Tachbrook. Buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.

Private, S/154714, Royal Army Service Corps. Killed in action aged 24, Saturday, 6th of December 1941. The son of John and Rose Finch, The Asps Cottage, Warwick. Buried in the Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery, Egypt.

Wing Commander, 70059, 143 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Died aged 27, Friday, 25th of June 1943. The son of the Reverend Henry Bennett and Annie Bennett, The Vicarage, Bishops Tachbrook. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and the Air Force Cross (AFC). Buried in the Sage War Cemetery, Germany.

Guardsman, 2664469, 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards. Killed in action aged 22, Sunday, 20th of February 1944. The son of John Clewes, Bishops Tachbrook and Hannah Bedenham, 4, Moss Street, Leamington Spa. Buried in the Minturno War Cemetery, Italy.

Trooper, 14316578, 53rd Regiment, Reconnaissance Corps. Killed in action in Normandy aged 20, Tuesday, 19th of September 1944. The son of Sydney Lees, Church Farm, Bishops Tachbrook and Anne Lees, 7, Albany Terrace, Leamington Spa. Buried in the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery, France.
YARDLEY Robert A
Guardsman, 2659341, 1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards. Killed in action aged 26, Friday, 8th of September 1944. The son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Yardley of Bishops Tachbrook. The husband of Vera Yardley of Bishops Tachbrook. Buried in the Heverlee War Cemetery, Belgium.
