ABERCORN WAR MEMORIAL

The Abercorn War memorial resides in the Parish Church, Avington. The dedication service was held on 13th February 1921. The memroial was unveiled by The Marquis of Linlithgow and dedicated by The Rev. J. A. McClymont. The listing here for World War 1 is taken from the Order of Service and has been sorted into alphabetical order. There is also a stained glass window within the church in the south wall installed in 1921 in remembrance of those who died, the craftsman was Dr Douglas Strachan. DALRYMPLE Robert

Private 202943, 6th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. Killed in action 23rd November 1917. Aged 20. Born Edinburgh, enlisted Linlithgow. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dalrymple, of Mannerston Farm, Linlithgow, West Lothian. No known grave. Commemorated on CAMBRAI MEMORIAL, LOUVERVAL, Nord, France. Panel 10.

ENDEAN George

Private, Princess Louise's (Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) probably George Henry ENDEAN, Sergeant S/5734, 4th/5th Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). Killed in action 1st August 1918. Born St Columba, Cornwall, enlisted Edinburgh. Son of James and Rose Endean, of Victoria St., St. Columb, Cornwall. Buried in RAPERIE BRITISH CEMETERY, VILLEMONTOIRE, Aisne, France. Plot III. Row E. Private 42424, 9th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Killed in action 3rd June 1918. Aged 19. Born Gateside, West Lothian, enlisted Glencorse, resident Hopetoun. Private 544, 'E' Company, 2nd Battalion, Australian I.F. Killed in action 8th August 1915. Aged 23. Son of James and Agnes Walker McEwen, of Winchburgh, Linlithgowshire, Scotland. (his father is listed as his next of kin at Ailsa View, Troon, Ayrshire). Native of Stewarton, Ayrshire. Educated Stewarton Public School. Emigrated aged 18 years. Enlisted Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia. Employed as a Dairy Farmer's Servant. Twice reported wounded. No known grave. Commemorated on LONE PINE MEMORIAL, Turkey. Panel 18.
