ALCOCK

[John] William

[Spelt ALLCOCK on SDGW amd CWGC] Private 140200, 3rd Battalion, Machine Gun Corps. Died of wounds 12th April 1918. Born and resident Abcomb, enlisted Bradford. Formerly 722, West Yorkshire Regiment. Buried in Choques Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Plot I. Row P. Grave 5.

BAINBRIDGE

Arthur Walter

Corporal 551104, Cavalry Brigade. Machine Gun Squadron, Canadian Machine Gun Corps. Died 2nd November 1918. Aged 28. Son of John Bowman Bainbridge and Mary Bainbridge, of York, England. Buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France, LXXI. A. 5.  Arthur Bainbridge was born on 16th June 1890. He enlisted in Winnipeg in January 1916 and gave his occupation as a farmer. He was described as being 5ft 9 inches, with fair hair and blue eyes. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Albert Edward

Airman 1st Class, 4th Squadron, Royal Flying Corps. Died 15th January 918. Aged 22. Son of J. B. and M. Bainbridge, of 29, Severus St., Acomb, York. Buried in Chocques Military Cemetery, France, I. O. 4. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Stoker 1st Class K/23336, H.M.S. ‘Tipperary’ Royal Navy. Died 1st June 1916. Aged 20. Son of G. and Amelia Bonass, of 3, Gale Cottages, Acomb, York. Commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, 17. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

CHIPCHASE

Arthur Leeming

Engine Room Artificer 4th Class M/19581, H.M.S. ‘Lassoo.’ Royal Navy. Died 13th August 1916. Aged 28. Son of Charles Edward and Eleanor Chipchase, of Acomb, York; husband of Margaret E. J. Chipchase, of 113, Holloway Rd., London. Commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, 14. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

CLARKSON

William Herbert

Probably - Sub-Lieutenant, Drake Bn. R.N. Division, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Killed in action 30th December 1917. Aged 30. Son of Elizabeth Clarkson, of 14, Raleigh St., Scarborough; and the late Samuel Clarkson. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France, Pier and Face 1 A. Sub-Lieutenant Clarkson was awarded the Military Cross.

Francis Robert

Rifleman C/12234, 21st Bn., King's Royal Rifle Corps. Killed in action 10th October 1916. Born Gillingham, Yorkshire, enlisted York, resident Abcomb. Buried in the A.I.F. Burial Ground, Flers, France, IX. L. 8. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Private 48601, 2nd/5th Bn., West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own). Died 21st November 1917. Commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France, Panel 5.  Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Gunner 294259, 144th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died of wounds 19th June 1918. Aged 19. Born Acomb, enlisted York. Son of George and Elizabeth Inns, of Acomb, York. Formerly 3713, 144th York Battery, Royal garrison Artillery. Buried in Vignacourt British Cemetery, France, III. E. 15. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Private 39018, 6th Bn., Yorkshire Regiment. Died 9th October 1917. Aged 20. Son of William and Ann Jarvis, of 4, Wards Terrace, Acomb, York. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium, Panel 52 to 54 and 162A. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Second Lieutenant, 1st/3rd Bn., Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) attached to the 15th Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers. Killed in action 4th November 1918. Aged 22. Son of Ralph R. and Jennie Lyon, of ‘Woodville,’ Carr Lane, Acomb, York. Buried in Ors British Cemetery, France, C. 29. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Private M2/115318, Motor Boat Section, Army Service Corps. Died 20th January 1916. Aged 19. Son of William and Rosamond Marshall, of 45, Morgate, Acomb Rd., York. Buried in Portianos Military Cemetery, Lemnos, Greece, III. B. 319. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Private 301892, 1st/8th Bn., Durham Light Infantry. Died 12th March 1917. Aged 20 Son of Mrs. F. H. Marrod, of Front St., Acomb, and the late G. W. Morrod. Buried in east part of new ground, Acomb (St. Stephen) Churchyard, Acomb, York. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Private G/25663, 11th Bn., The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Died 21st March 1918. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France, Bay 2. Private Pinder was born in Acomb, was a resident of York and enlisted in York, he formerly served as 45563 in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Private 2877, 2nd/5th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own). Killed in action 18th February 1917. Enlisted York, resident Abcomb. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France, Pier and Face 2 A 2 C and 2 D. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Gunner 94503, 118th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died of wounds 17th November 1916. Aged 22. Born and enlisted Acomb. Son of Charles Herbert and Ada Siddall; husband of Dorothy Marion Siddall, of 14, Albert Terrace, Acomb, York. Buried in Bernafay Wood British Cemetery, Montauban, France, 1. 34.  Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.

Corporal C/12172, 21st Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Killed in action 15th September 1916 [SDGW states 17th]. Aged 39. Born Bilton, enlisted York, resident Acomb. Son of Richard and Mary Jane Skilbeck; husband of Alice Skilbeck, of Springfield, The Green, Acomb, Yorks. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France, Pier and Face 13 A and 13 B. Also commemorated on the Acomb War Memorial.
