War 1 & 2 - Detailed information

Knottingley
War Memorial takes the form of a winged victory statue on top of a rough,
hewn, stone pillar which stands on a two tiered plinth, the upper part
containing the names. The whole stands on a three-stepped base and stands
in its own coobled, walled area. The memorial is to be found in Chapel
Street, Nottingley, West Yorkshire on a paved area outside the church.
There are 202 names for World War 1 and 61 for World War 2. The memorial
cost £200 and was originally unveiled by Colonel C C Moxon 25th
September 1921; the sculptor was Mr G H Fairburn. Note: The names are
not readily distinguishable between World War 1 and 2 but have been
filtered into conflict and then sorted into alphabetical order for ease
of reading and research.
