Within the chuch of St Matthew, Hull Road, Withernsea are several memorials. Firstly there is a memorial to those men who died in World War 2 and can be found on a pillar sited between the windows on the south wall; it takes the form of an oak board with a carved inscription with a carved, oliate, decoration at the top of it; there are 13 names listed. The second memorial is a stained glass window with a plaque below it commemorating on Merchant seaman who died in World War 1. The third memorial is a commemoration from the Withernsea Branch of the British legion to the men who died in World War 1 and 2. A fourth memorial takes th form of a small kneeling desk near the altar offering thanks for the safe return of Sidney Holmes from World War 2.
