              immediately drafted to France, where he took part in much heavy 
              fighting at the Battles of Ypres, Loos, Neuve Chapelle and St. Eloi. 
              He made the supreme sacrifice, being killed in action at Hill 60 
              on April 21st, 1915, and was entitled to the 1914 Star, and the 
              General Service and Victory Medals. 'Whilst we remember, the sacrifice

              Royal Engineers. He was mobilised in August 1914 and shortly afterwards 
              drafted to the Western Front, where he took part in severe fighting 
              at Loos. He died gloriously on the Field of Battle at Neuve Chapelle 
              on February 26th, 1915, and was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and

              he fought with distinction at Suvla Bay and Anzac, but unfortunately 
              contracted dysentry and died at Malta on November 25th, 1915. He 
              was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory

              He was reported missing on April 17th, 1918 and is now presumed 
              killed in action on that date. He was entitled to the General Service

              National Roll states he was killed in action at Sulva Bay but he 
              actually died of disease in Malta probably from typhoid or dysentery 
              on transfer to hospital, following wounds incurred at Sulva Bay. CROSHAW, 
              H. A., Drummer, 1/5th Bedfordshire. Regt. He 
              was mobilised at the declaration of war in August 1914, and in July 
              of the following year was drafted to Gallipoli. There he saw much 
              severe fighting in several engagements, but was unfortunately killed 
              in action at Suvla Bay on November 17th, 1915. He was entitled to 
              the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. "His

              He was the son of George Hulett and Mary Anne Howe, and husband 
              of Olive Kate Smith, (married 15 March 1916), father of Joan Mary 
              Hulett (born 6 June 1915). Enlisted Bedford. Formerly 4574, 5th 
              Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment. Commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, 
              Somme, France. Pier and Face 5 A and 5 B. Cutting 
              from one of the Bedford papers: "...received of the death of Corporal 
              Frederick G. Hulett, of the Gloucesters, formerly of the 5th. Bedfordshire. 
              Regt., who was killed in action on Dec. 21st. 1916. Corpl. Hulett 
              was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hulett of College Road, 
              and the husband of Mrs. Olive Hulett, Bower Street. Before enlistment 
              he was employed by the Midland Railway Co., and was highly respected 
              by his many friends. Joining up in October, 1914, he went to France 
              in May, 1916. A widow and one little child are left to mourn his 
              loss. The corporal's death came as a great blow to his sorrowing 
              wife and to his parents, who have two other sons serving." |

              Muswell Rd, Bedford. Wounded in the Chest and Spine. Attended Ampthill 
              Road School, Bedford. Worked at Howard's Works Bedford before joining 
              up. Enlisted in 1st Bedford's, March 1911. Two years later he became 
              a Gymnasium Instructor with the Battalion in Ireland. Departed for 
              France in August 1914 with the BEF. After taking part in the retreat 
              from Mons he was wounded at the Marne and recovered at the Cambridge 
              Hospital, Aldershot. He returned to service now with the 2nd Battalion 
              and was finally transferred to the 7th Battalion in time for the 
              first Somme battle, were he was mortally wounded. This information 
              has been gleaned from Casualty Returns & obituaries of the time.
