NATIONAL ROLL OF THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 SECTION XII
 BEDFORD & NORTHAMPTON
 The
National Roll only ever reached 12 volumes. I was intended to be a complete
list of all men that served in the Great War whether they survived or
not. To fund the book entries were by subscription and many people could
not, or did not want to, afford an entry. For Felmersham and Radwell
the book is very sparse but the entries below may fit some of the men
who served, there are none for those who died. As there are only initials
to work with these are not necessarily the right entries. There
are two entries for PURSER of 18 high Street, Pavenham, H J &
          S J. H J died in the fighting but S J survived. The J PURSER
listed above may have been a relavtive or in fact be S J himself. PARTRIDGE,
          E., Private, Bedfordshire Regiment He
volunteered in September 1914, and in the following May was drafted to
the Western Front. There he participated in strenuous fighting during
the Battle of Loos, Ypres, the Somme, Arras and Cambrai, and also saw
service at Abbevillle and Albert. He was twice wounded in action on the
Somme font in July and August 1916, but remained overseas until April
1919, when he was demobilised. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General
        Service and Victory Medals.
