        This
Memorial is in the care of Luton Museum and Art Gallery. The Memorial
gives names and initials, Regiment, and in some cases when and where
killed. There are certain discrepancies occurring between the Memorial
and the records from The Commonwealth War Graves Commission. For ease
of research, and reading, the names have been sorted into alphabetical
          order here. History:
George Kent Ltd, of 199 to 201 High Holborn, London W.C. and Luton,
Beds was established in 1838. In 1871 they were employing 72 men and
12 boys. In 1907 they were incorporated as a Limited Company. In 1908
George Kent Ltd had new works in Biscot Road, Luton. The firm was described
in a 1914 directory as being hydraulic engineers, the true description
was Mechanical and Domestic Engineers; manufacturer of rotary knife
cleaning machines, ventilated ice safes and refrigerators, fluid meters
for water, sewage, air, gas or oil. Sir Walter George Kent CBE (3 August
1858 – 11 November 1938) was the chairman and managing director
of the engineering firm George Kent Ltd which was started by his father,
George Kent, in 1838. He was appointed a CBE in 1918 and was knighted
in 1929 for political services; he was at the time chairman of the Luton
Conservative Association. The year 1968 saw the Cambridge Instrumentation
Co. joining forces with the George Kent Group of Luton, forming the
largest independent British manufacturer of industrial instruments.
The George Kent Group combined with BBC Brown Boveri & Co. Ltd.,
the international electrical engineering organization, in late 1974.
