        The 
          village war memorial is situated in the centre of the War Memorial Garden, 
          High Road, Shillington. It takes the form of Celtic Cross mounted on 
          a stepped base and plinth. The names and the inscription are recessed 
          on the plinth with lettering in black. One additional; name ptobably 
          not recorded here was added in 2009 on a new stone block at the fott 
          of the front face of the cross. In all 27 names are listed for World 
          War 1 and 8 for World War 2. The memorial is the responsibility of the 
          Shillington War Memorial Trustees. In 1985 the railing were painted, 
          1988 the stonewrok cleaned, 1989 the plinth was repaired and in 2009 
          the name of W A INGRAM, ROYAL ARTILLERY was added to the memorial. The 
          orgiinal memorial was unveiled by Mr M G Townley 22nd August 1922. A 
          £200 donation had been made to erect the memorial, the land was 
          gifted to the parish council by rs hanscombe, mother of William hanscombe 
          then 'Lord of th Manor'. In 1967 a registered charity (254355) was established 
          to take responsibility for the war memorial. Shillington Parish Council 
          is the sole trustee of that registered charity. The new name added to 
          the memorial was of W. A. Ingram. He died of peritonitis in 1946 and 
          was buried overseas.
