Captain
- He lived at Belmont, Dollar at the time of his death and was an
ex-army officer although on his death certificate he is entered
as a Retired Woollen manufacturer. At the outbreak of war he had
served as a Captain in the 2/7th Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland
Highlanders at Alloa and Norfolk but t is presumed that due to ill
health he retired. He was Captain of the Sauchie Company of the
Clackmannanshire Volunteer Battallion. He died in his home at Belmont,
Dollar of pneumonia on 25 August 1916. He was given a military funeral
with three volleys being fired over his grave and the playing of
the last post. He does not appear on the CWGC because he was not
a full time officer but is listed on the war Memorial in Tillicoultry
Parish Church. When the then St Serf's (Tillicoultry) Parish Church
was renovated in 1929 his widow and a brother gifted the handsome
brass eagle lectern in the church. At that point they were living
