memorial is located in St Saviours Church, Church Close, Dartmouth.
It takes the form of an ornate, carved, wooden board with the names
in six columns which are divided by pillars in relief every two blocks
of names; the inscription is in gold lettering with tracery carved at
the top of the board. There are 132 names listed for World War 1 only.

on the 5th February 1916 aged 21, and is buried at Portland Royal
Naval Cemetery, Dorset. Son of Henry and Susan Ann Wellington of
of Higher Street, Dartmouth, later of Boohay Cottage, Kingswear,
Devon. He was born at Dartmouth in 1895. He is also listed on the
Dartmouth War Memorial as W. H. Wellington.
Anson Battalion 15/9/14-14/9/15, to hospital with debility &
cardiac enteritis. Invalided to UK 21/10/15. Died from Dysentery
at 1.30am in Royal Naval Hospital Portland. 1914 Star issued to
father 5/5/20.

Officer 1st Class 179626, HMS M28, Royal Navy. He died on the 20th
January 1918 aged 39, and is buried at Lancashire Landing Cemetery,
Gallipoli, Turkey. The National Archive records that he was born
at Kingston, Herefordshire in December 1878. The 1901 Census records
an Able Seaman George E. Whitemore aged 23, living with his wife
Alice aged 23 and baby daughter Dorothy, at Dittisham, Devon. However,
it records his place of birth as Sherborne, Dorset. There is either
a mistake in his place of birth, or they are two separate individuals.
He is also listed on the Dartmouth War
