Possibly Herbert George Cable a Rifleman (#286) with the 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade who was killed in France August 26, 1914 and who is recorded on the La-Ferte-Sous Jouarre memorial.
CALLOW Arthur Ernest
Arthur was a resident of Tunbridge Wells before the war. He was a Private (#G/6090) with the 2nd Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) who died in France August 25, 1918. He is recorded at the Mazarques War Cemetery Marseilles France (IV. B. 11).
CANFIELD George William
[Initials inscribed incorrectly on the plaque but the council have now added a revised one with the ciorrect initials]. George was just 19 when he died in France on April 25, 1918. He was a Rifleman (#S/36244) with the 2nd Battalion, and was awarded the Military Medal. He is recorded at the Vignacourt British Cemetery (I. F. 7). He was the son of Walter and Rosetta Canfield of Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells. He is also recorded on the Rusthall War Memorial.

Joseph was a Private (#43145) with the 13th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment who died at age 21 August 3, 1917. He is recorded at the Mendinghem Milirary Cemetery (III. E. 31). He was the son of Joseph and Martha Card of 16 Apsley Rd., Tunbridge Wells. He is also recorded on the Rusthall War Memorial.
CARELESS John
John was born at Trumpington, Cambridge but at resident of Tunbridge Wells before the war and enlisted at Tonbridge. He was a Private (#G/5101) with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment who died in France July 22, 1916. He is recorded at the Thiepval Memorial (pier and face 11c). John had been reported missing since July 22, 1916 and presumed dead. His son was Private Reginald Careless (G/19120) killed July 1, 1918. John was the husband of Elizabeth C. Careless of Tunbridge Wells. He is also listed on the plaque at St James Church as John Careless.
CAREY Frederick
Frederick was a Private with the 1st Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) who died in France October 28, 1918. He is recorded at the St Souplet British Cemetery (I. B. 34).

Richard was a 2nd Lieut. with the 12th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment who died in France at age 20 July 3, 1916. He is recorded at the Arras Memorial (Bay 4). He was the son of Mr and Mrs Carey of 9 Monson Rd., Tunbridge Wells.

Surname given incorrectly on the plaque. Reginald Careless was born in Tunbridge Wells and enlisted for service at Tonbridge. He was a Private (#G/19120) with the Royal Sussex Regiment 9th Battalion, He died of wounds in France at age 19 on July 1, 1918. He is recorded at the Pernes British Cemetery (V. D. 6). He was the son of Pte John Carless of 5101 Royal West Kent Regiment (reported missing since July 22, 1916) and Elizabeth C. Careless of Tunbridge Wells. He is also listed on the plaque of St James Church as Reginald Careless

Error on second initial inscribed on plaque. Richard was born at Christ Church. Kent and a resident of Tunbridge Wells and enlisted for service in Tunbridge Wells. He was as Private (#S/355) with the 8th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment who died in France March 20, 1918. He is recorded at the Thiepval Memorial (pier and face C). He is also listed on the plaque at St James Church as Richard Carman.
CARRETT Charles Lawrence
Charles was a Private (G/4558) with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment who died in France April 18, 1915. He was born at St Peters Tunbridge Wells and enlisted for service at Maidstone. He is recorded at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (panel 45 and 47).

Albert was a Driver (#2025) with the Royal Engineers who died of injuries October 17, 1915. He is recorded at the Tunbridge Wells Cemetery (C. 14. grave 403). He was the son of Mr and Mrs Carter or Tonbridge and the husband of Edith Steers (formerly Carter) of 20 Victoria Rd., Tunbridge Wells.

Henry was a Private (#G/8179) with A Coy 11th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment who at age 20 died June 7, 1917. He is recorded at the Ypres (Menin Gage) Memorial (panel; 45 and 47). He was the son of the late W. J. Carter.

Albert was a Sapper (#142356) with the S. S. T. C. Royal Engineers who at age 30 died October 9, 1918. He is recorded at the Rusthall (St Paul) Churchyard (5. 126). He was the husband of Hannah Marie Cashford of 68 Erskine Park Rd, Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells. He is also recorded on the Rusthall War Memorial.
CASSINGHAM Frederick Odian
Frederick was born in Tunbridge Wells and enlisted at Eastbourne. He was a Private (Signaller #34425) with the 1/5th (Territorial) Gloucestershire Regiment who was killed in action at age 35 on October 23, 1918 in France. He is recorded at the Roisel Communal Cemetery (I. D. 14). He was the son of William Cassingham and the husband of Ethel Daisy Cassingham of 68 Erskine Park Rd., Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells.
CATER Walter Henry
Walter was a Temp2/Lieut with the 8th (Pioneer) Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment who died in France August 16, 1918 at age 23. He is recorded at the St. Sever Cemetery at Rouen, France (officers B. 5. 1). He was formerly Private #GS/2178 with the Queens Royal West Kent Regiment. He was the son of John Walter Cater and Lavenia Maud Cater (nee Waite) of Bridge St, St Ives, Hunts. Walter had been born at Ashford, Middlesex in 1896 and in 1901 he was living with his parents (his father was a spirit merchant) at Ashford. In 1911 Walter was living with his mother (a house keeper) at Belle Ville, Tunbridge Wells. Walter obtained his commission Septemgber 20, 1916 and enlistment records give his father living at 64 Aukland Rd., Tunbridge Wells. He had gone to France as a Private and promoted in the field. He died of wounds and was awarded the MC.
CAVIE Albert Edward
Albert was born in Tunbridge Wells and enlisted at Tonbridge. He was a Private (#41131) with the 1st Battalion, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry who at age 19 died of wounds September 19, 1918. He is recorded at the St Sever Cemetery Extension Rouen France (R. III. L. 6). He was the son of Walter and Alma Cavie of 35 Vernon Rd., Tunbridge Wells.

Possibly Frederick James a Private (#L/6578) with the 1st Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) who died in France age 36 February 24, 1915 and who is recorded at the Y Farm Military Cemetery (pier and face 10B, 11B and 12B). Frederick James was the son of James and Emma Charlton of 50 Granville Rd., Gillingham, Kent. He is also listed on the Crowborough Memorial.

Charles was born in Tunbridge Wells and enlisted for service at Canterbury, Kent. He was a Private (#242226) with the Northumberland Fusiliers 1/5th Battalion, (Territorial). He died in France November 14, 1916.
CHEAL Thomas
Thomas was a Serjeant (#2409) with the 14th (Kings) Hussars. He was buried at sea July 18, 1916. He is recorded at the Basra Memorial (panel 2) in Iraq. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Cheal of Dunorlan, Tunbridge Wells and the husband of Daisy Brown (formerly Cheal) of 132 Waldegrove Rd., Brighton. He is also listed on the plaque at St James Church as Tomas Cheal.

He was the son of William and Fanny Chown of 50 South View Rd., High Brooms, Tunbridge Wells. William was born in Tunbridge Wells and a resident of the town and enlisted there.

He was the son of Henry Thomas and Eliza Chuter of 25 Muchland Rd., New Eltham, London. William had formerly been #5658 with the Royal Sussex Regiment. Arthur was a Private (#RMR/16351) with the H. Q. (Eastney) Royal Marine Artillery Royal Marines who died at home October 28, 1918 at age 18. He was the son of George and Harriet Clark of 1 Yew Tree Cottages, Frant Rd., Tunbridge Wells. He is also recorded on the plaque at St Marks Church, Tunbridge Wells. In 1911 he was living at Frant, Sussex, #1 Yew Tree Cottages and attending school. He was living at that time with his parents and his sister Florence. His father worked as a gardener.

Harry was born at Eridge Sussex and a resident of Brenchley, Kent but enlisted for service at Tonbridge. He was a Private (#G/6492) with the Queens Royal West Kent Regiment and served at the time of his death April 17, 1916 in the Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force, Asiatic Theatre.

Claude (no serial number found) was 33 when he was killed in France October 9, 1918 while serving as a Second Lieutenant with the Royal Berkshire Reg., 4th Battalion. He is recorded on the Cagnoncles Command Cemetery (5). He was the son of Mr and Mrs Gringer Clements of 116 Marina, St. Leonards-on-sea. He is also recorded on the plaque at Skinners School.

Robert was born in Tunbridge Wells and a resident there before the war. He enlisted for service at Woolwich, Kent. He was a Private (#12414) with the 9th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment when he died at age 23 April 9, 1916. He was engaged at the time of his death in the Mesopotamian (Asiatic Theatre of war). He is recorded at the Basra Memorial in Iraq (panel 9). He was the son of R. H. M. and Eva Clements of Tunbridge Wells. Robert had formerly been #4003 with the R. G. A.

Benjamin had been born in Tunbridge Wells and was living in the town before the war but enlisted at Guildford, Surrey. He was a Rifleman (#R/14414) with the 18th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps who died of injuries September 21, 1917. He was buried in the Tunbridge Wells Cemetery but also remembered at the Tyne Cot Memorial in France.

He is recorded at the Jerusalem War Cemetery (L. 32). He was the son of Mrs E. Cole of 43 New Comen Rd., Tunbridge Wells and the late Mr. R. F. Cole. He was born in Crawley, Surrey and lived in Tunbridge Wells and enlisted there.

Frederick (#19015) was a Sergeant who at the age of 35 was killed in France May 20, 1917 while serving with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Reg., 6th Battalion. He is recorded at the Etaples Military Cemetery (XXV. B. 6). He was the son of James E. Coleman and the late George Coleman of Tunbridge Wells. He is also listed on the plaque at St James Church as Frederick Coleman.
COLGATE Albert Percy
Albert was a Private (#G/12132) when at the age of 26 he was killed in France March 21, 1918 while serving with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Reg., 8th Battalion, He is recorded at the Pozieres Memorial (Panel 58 and 59). He was the son of Mrs Maud Alice Colgate of 95 Silverdale Rd., Tunbridge Wells. He is also remembered at the Pozieres Memorial in France. Albert was born in Tunbridge Wells and enlisted for service there.

Surname given incorrectly on plaque, should be COLEGATE. Arthur was a Private (#G/22773) with the 1st/6th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment who died at age 20 October 10, 1918. He is recorded at the Grangegorman Military Cemetery (CE. New Plot, 714). He was the son of Alfred and Maud Alice Colgate of 95 Silverdale Rd., Tunbridge Wells.
COLLETT Thomas Theodore
Thomas was a Second Lieut. with the Yorkshire Regiment, 3rd Coy. 7th Battalion, who at the age of 20 died in France February 15, 1917. He is recorded at the Gove Town Cemetery, Meaulte. (III. A. 3) just to the south of the town of Albert. He was the only son of Maude Collett of 12 Garden Rd., Tunbridge Wells and the late Rev. Thomas Collett (Vicar of Scotby, Carlisle). He was born January 29, 1897. He was commissioned January 1916 and joined the 7th bn. In early February 1917 the battalion was preparing for an attack on the village of Sailly-Saillesel. Thomas and his comrades went into the advance at 6:30 a. m. on February 8th and during the advance Thomas was wounded and brought back to the battalion HQ where the wounded were placed in the cellar. A short while later an enemy shell struck the HQ and many of the wounded were killed. Thomas survived the shelling and was taken to a field hospital but died from his wounds. He was described as "An outstanding young officer".

COLLINS Dennis
Dennis was a Stoker 1st Class (#304389) with the Royal Navy H. M. S. ITCHEN when he was killed in action July 6, 1917. He is recorded on the Chatham Naval Memorial (23). He was the brother of Susan Botten, of 67 Cambrian Rd., Tunbridge Wells.

Possibly Private (G/674) with the 2nd Battalion Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment who died at age 27 December 8, 1915 and is recorded at the Basra memorial in Iraq (Panel 29) and who was the son of William Collins of 10 Ruglan Rd., Bromley Kent and the late Lucy Collins.
COLQUHOUN William Walace
William was a Captain with B Coy 11th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry who at the age of 25 died September 25, 1915. He is recorded at the Loos Memorial in France (panel 108 to 116). He was the son of Mr and Mrs James Colquhoun of 31 Ferndale, Tunbridge Wells. He is also listed on the plaque of St James Church as William W. Colquhoun.
CONSTABLE William Henry
William was born at Rusthall, Kent and enlisted for service at Tunbridge Wells. He was a Private (#106527) with the Machine Gun Corps. He died in France March 21, 1918. He was formerly #203102 with the East Surrey Regiment.
COOK William Arthur George
William was a Private (#94377) with the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), 222nd Coy., when at the age of 21 he was killed in Pakistan on September 10, 1917. He is recorded on the Karachi 1914-1918 War Memorial. He was the son of William and Clara Harriett Cook of Tunbridge Wells.

He was a private (G/11593) with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment who died in France November 18, 1916 at age 24. He is recorded at the Thiepval Memorial (pier and face C). He was the adopted son of George and Edith Abbott of 2 Rusthall Park, Tunbridge Wells. He received his B. Sc (London) and was a Jessel student at the University College in London. He is also recorded on the plaque at Skinners School.

William was a resident of Tunbridge Wells but enlisted for service at Maidstone. He was a Private (#205331) with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, 7th Battalion, who died in France April 24, 1918. He is recorded at the Hangard Command Cemetery Extension (III. A. 4). He had formerly been #2402 with the West Kent Yeomanry.
COZENS Edwin George
Edwin was a Private (#200621) serving with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, 2nd/4th Battalion,, when at the age of 22 he was killed in the Israel and Palestine theatre of war in Egypt September 19, 1918.

He is recorded at the Ramleh War Cemetery (J. 51). He was the son of Edwin and Elizabeth Mary Cozens of 4 Woodbury Park Rd., Tunbridge Wells. Edwin was a resident of Tunbridge Wells and enlisted at Tonbridge.

Arthur was a Captain with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, 1st/4th Battalion, who at the age of 24 died in France October 4, 1918. He is recorded at the La Kreule Military Cemetery (VI. A. 13). He was the son of John Francis and Ada Georgina Craig of 1 Mount Ephraim Mansions, Tunbridge Wells.

William was born in Broadwater, Warthing and was a resident of Tunbridge Wells and enlisted in the town. He died October 10, 1917 and is recorded at the Tyne Cot Memorial (panel 98 to 99) in Belgium. William was a Private (#35410) with the 2nd Essex Regiment but was formerly #31640 with the Suffolk Regiment. He is also recorded on the Rusthall War Memorial.

George was a Lieut. with the 2nd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment who at age 20 died in France September 16, 1915. He is recorded at the Loos Memorial (panel 44 and 45). He was the son of the late George Henry and Mary Pelham Cressey of Fairoak Genards Cross Bucks. He is also listed on the plaque at St James Church as George L. Cressey. In the 1901 censsu he was aged 3, born Tunbridge Wells, son of Frederick and Esther Crittenden, resident 27, Stanley Road, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Kent. In the 1911 census he was aged 13, born Tunbridge Wells, Kent, at school, son of Frederick and Esther Crittenden, resident 152, St. James Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. No known grave. Commemorated on Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 69 to 73.

He was a Sapper (#890) with the 1st/3rd Kent Field Coy, Royal Engineers who was a soldier lost at sea, age 21, on October 28, 1915 during the Hythe disaster. He is recorded at the Helles Memorial (panel 23 to 25 or 325 to 328). He was the husband of Julia Elizabeth Esther Crittenden of 148 St James Rd., Tunbridge Wells. CRITTENDEN Harry Albert
Incorrect plaque inscription for second initial. Harry was a Private (G/4019) with the 7th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment who died in France July 7, 1916. He is recorded at the Thiepval Memorial (pier and face 7c). He was the brother of Afred Ernest Critten (see above) also killed in the war. He was the son of Mr and Mrs George Crittenden of 49 Silverdale Rd., Tunbridge Wells.
CRITTENDEN James Thomas
James was a Private (#235827) serving with the York and Lancaster Regiment, 7th (Service) Battalion, when at the age of 30 he was killed in France on June 8, 1918. He is recorded on the Acheux British Cemetery (Plot 1 Row D. Grave_). He was the only son of James and Sophia Crittenden of Tunbridge Wells. James had formerly been #5374 with the Durham Light Infantry. He was born in and enlisted for service at Tunbridge Wells. He is also listed on the High Brooms memorial plaque as Private J. t. Crittenden.
CRITTLE Alfred Bertram
Alfred was a Private (#201349) serving with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, A. Coy., 2nd/4th Battalion, when, at the age of 23, he was killed in the Israel and Palestine theatre of war in Egypt April 19, 1917. He is recorded at the Gaza War Cemetery (XXX. C. 1). He was the son of Albert Thomas and Lydia Crittle of 3 John St., Tunbridge Wells. Alfred was a born in Tunbridge Wells and enlisted in the town.
CROCKER Edward James
Edward was a Corporal (#200957) with the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, 10th Battalion, when at the age of 24 he was killed in Belgium. He is recorded at the Anzegerm Command Cemetery (East Corner). He was the son of Edward John and Susan Crocker of 36 Bayhall Rd, Tunbridge Wells. He served on Gallipoli. Edward qas born at Bayswater, London SW but was a resident of Tunbridge Wells and enlisted for service there.
CROUCH Ernest or Edward
He is possible E. Crouch a Serjeant (#L/8014) with the 2nd Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) who died in Belgium May 25, 1915 and is recorded at the Klein-Vierstraat British Cemetery (VII. A. 1).
