These memorials are situated in the grounds of St. Nicholas & St. Faith church in Station Road Saltash. There are 2 memorials on the site: one to the 1914-1918 war and the second a wall standing directly behind it. Those marked * are also to be found on the memorial at St. Stephens-by-Saltash Church, where they also include their Christian names.

Born, 18th April 1887, and raised in Saltash, emigrated to Canada in 1908. Passed fit and enlisted in 14th Battalion, Royal Montreal Regiment 6th August 1915 in Toronto, aged 34 tears 4 months, 75th Battalion, transferred to 23rd Battalion. Joined 14th Battalion January 1916. Son of Thomas S. and Susan A. Alford, of 6, Symons Rd., Saltash. Bridgeman by trade. Unmarried. Height 5 feet 8 inches, girth 36 inches, complexion fair, eyes blue, hair brown. Religion Church of England. No known grave. Chief Writer 90598, H.M.S. "Vivid.", Royal Navy. Died from disease at sea 16 February 1915. Aged 54. Born 25 March 1860 in Saltash, Cornwall and baptised at St Nicholas and St Faith on 15 April 1860. Youngest son of William and Elizabeth (nee Pine) Andrews. Husband of Eliza Andrews, of 175, Acacai Avenue, Rockliffe Park, Ottawa, Canada; previously of "Holmwood", Saltash. Buried in ST. STEPHEN'S-BY-SALTASH (ST. STEPHEN) CHURCHYARD, Cornwall. Grave 1323.

Late Artificer Engineer, Royal Navy. Died in Yarmouth 13 December 1918. Aged 41. His birth was registered September Quarter 1878 at Leeds. In 1899 he married Beatrice Eleanor STANLEY at Saltash – marriage registered June Quarter at St. Germans. Beatrice Eleanor Stanley was the daughter of Charles & Anne Stanley of Tamar Street, Saltash. In the 1901 census he was aged 24, living at 2, Home Park Villas, Saltash with wife & one yare old son Arthur Harold. His occupation was Engine Room Artificer, Royal Navy. Entitled to the 1914-15 Star, Victory & British War Medals. Medals sent to his widow Mrs, B. E. Bancroft. In the 1911 Census he was aged 33 on board HMS MEDEA as an Artificer Engineer- HMS Medea was a Marathon class second class cruiser launched in 1888 and sold in 1914. His wife Beatrice E Bancroft, was aged 33, living at 4 Sea View Terrace, Saltash, Cornwall, with two children Arthur Harold age 11 and Beatrice May age 5. He is on the Register of Seaman Services, Official Number 269249, born Leeds, Yorkshire, 30 January 1877. His death was recorded in the October-December Quarter 1918 in Yarmouth Registration District, Norfolk. Buried (19 December 1918) in ST. STEPHEN'S-BY-SALTASH (ST. STEPHEN) CHURCHYARD, Cornwall. Ordinary Telegraphist J/32553, H.M.S. Hornet, Royal Navy. One of five crew killed in action 22nd April 1918 when H.M.S. Hornet while attacking German ships carrying out raids to interrupt Allied shipping between Italy and Albania south of Valona. Aged 19. Born 14 February 1899 in Saltash. Birth was registered March Q 1899 at St. Germans was baptised on the 8th of March 1899 at Saltash. His parents were Nicholas and Beatrice Doris of 16 Fore Street Saltash, then of 12, Lockyer Terrace, Saltash, Cornwall. His father was a stoker in the Royal Navy. He enlisted 14 February 1917 for 12 years. Height 5 feet, chest 30½ inches, light brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion. Buried in SALONIKA (LEMBET ROAD) MILITARY CEMETERY, Greece. Grave 1617. Killed in action when his ship was hit by one torpedo amidships causing a catastrophic explosion which broke her in two 2nd October 1917 in Rathlin Sound. Born 14 March 1880 in Collington, Cornwall. In 1911 he was living at 117 Fore Street, Saltash, Leading Stoker, Royal Navy, aged 31, husband of Annie Rebecca Buckingham, father of Dora Frances and John, both born Saltash. He enlisted 2 November 1899 for 12 years and then re-enlisted 2 November 1911. He was a labourer by trade, height 5 feet 6 inches, dark brown haor, blue eyes, fresh complexion. No known grave. Note: H.M.S "Monmouth" - Built London and Glasgow, Glasgow, laid down August 1899, completed December 1903. Assigned as part of 5th Cruiser Squadron, Atlantic. Involved in the hunt for the Admiral Graf Spee in the South Atlantic. Sunk during the naval battle off the coast of central Chile, at Coronel 1st November 1914 (Battle of Coronel). With the seas difficult (to the disadvantage of the British) Spee reacted by moving his faster vessels out of Cradock's firing range; at sunset - 7pm - with the moon clearly silhouetting Cradock's fleet, he began to shell the latter's force, with Scharnhorst's third salvo crippling the flagship Good Hope; both Good Hope and Monmouth were destroyed shortly afterwards, Monmouth under repeated battering.

LIEUTENANT (temp.) WILLIAM REGINALD PRYN, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS, was the eldest son of Deputy-Surgeon-General W. W. Pryn, R.N., and Mrs. Pryn, Royal Naval Hospital, Gibraltar, and a grandson of the late Major John Cotter, The Buffs.

Lieutenant Pryn was born in Ascension Island on the 28th September, 1892, and was educated at Kelly College, Tavistock, and Guy's Hospital, London. When the war broke out he was House Surgeon at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, but he immediately offered his services to the War Office, and in August, 1914, he was gazetted Temporary Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps. At first he served in No. 11 General Hospital, Rouen, and St. Nazaire, and in September, 1914, he was attached as Medical Officer to the 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. That appointment terminated in May, 1915, when Lieutenant Pryn was attached to No. 9 Field Ambulance. lie died on the 27th June, 1915, at No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station. His death was due to accidental burning while he was on temporary duty with the Wiltshire Regiment, which was at that time in the firing line. He was buried in the Military Cemetery near Poperinghe, Belgium.

DSM awarded "For services in action with enemy submarines" London Gazette 11.8.1917 p8206. HMS Vala was a former collier employed as a Q-ship. She was known as Q8 and was in action with U-boats no fewer than seven times. Her loss was unknown until after the end of the war when she was listed as being lost in action with the German submarine UB.54 in the Bay of Biscay.

Benjamin is also commemorated in St Stephens Churchyard in Saltash. His name appears on one side of an obelisk dedicated to other members of the Sambells family.
